Our Health Our Future
Our Health Our Future brings together every year doctors, researchers and international experts to address the most relevant and current issues related to human health. This year’s edition, the second in Italy, focuses on the serious hormonal imbalance affecting humanity on a global scale and particularly developed countries. There will be in-depth discussion of the numerous causes (diet, environmental pollutants, stress…..) and of possible solutions and prevention strategies.
Our guests
Speaking about it will be internationally renowned professionals from the world of research, clinical practice and integrative medicine:
- Prof. Angus Dalgleish – Emeritus Professor of Oncology at St George’s, University of London and Director of the ICVI. He discovered the CD4 receptor for HIV, pioneered treatments for HIV and cancer. Joshua Lederberg Prize in 2011.
- Prof. Giovanni Frajese – Professor of Endocrinology and Advanced Medical and Surgical Technical Sciences at the University of Rome Foro Italico. His research focuses on neuroendocrine interactions; he is recognised for integrating traditional and innovative approaches to health.
- Dr. Nicola Antonucci – Director of the Biomedical Centre for Autism Research and Treatment in Bari, Nicola Antonucci integrates biomedical approaches to support children with neurodevelopmental disorders. He is the recipient of numerous research grants on autism.
- Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt, PhD – Pioneer of biological and environmental medicine worldwide, founder of the Sophia Health Institute (USA) and the Institute of Neurobiology. He developed the Autonomic Response Testing® (A.R.T.) method and has dedicated over forty years to the study and treatment of chronic diseases, environmental toxicities and neurodevelopmental disorders.
- Dr. Sarah Myhill, MB, BS – Physician specialised in ecological and mitochondrial medicine, author of numerous books and scientific studies on chronic fatigue (CFS/ME), cellular energy dysfunctions and the ecological approach to chronic diseases.
- Gillian Crowther, MA (Oxon), NT/ND – Naturopath and nutritionist, she is Director of Research at the Academy of Nutritional Medicine in the United Kingdom and scientific consultant to the Klinghardt Institute, specialised in PANS/PANDAS and integrative family care.
- Fausto Carotenuto – Scholar, writer and communicator on spiritual topics, with direct experience in institutional and international settings. Founder of the Coscienze in Rete movement and of the Academy of Spiritual Studies, he proposes an integrated vision between the inner dimension, the human condition and health.
- Rob Verkerk, PhD – Founder of the Alliance for Natural Health International, Robert Verkerk is an internationally renowned multidisciplinary scientist with over 40 years of experience in health, agriculture and environmental sustainability. He is the author of over 60 scientific articles.
- Dr. h.c. Daniela Deiosso, MSc, PhD – Holding an MSc in Neuroscience and a PGDip in Anthroposophic Medicine, Daniela Deiosso co-founded the Klinghardt Institute and founded A.R.T.® Global Education and Ki Science. Specialised in Autonomic Response Testing® (A.R.T.), she focuses on neurodevelopmental disorders and autism.
The Context
In 2025 Italy recorded the lowest birth rate ever registered, according to the latest Istat data, 355,000 children were born: a 3.9% decrease compared to 2024. Compared to 2008 this represents a 38% collapse. The fertility rate has fallen to 1.14 children per woman, well below the replacement threshold (the minimum value needed to ensure generational replacement and demographic stability) set at 2.1, while the natural balance (difference between births and deaths) is negative by almost 296,000 units, the worst figure in the country’s recent history.
Italy is by no means an isolated case. According to United Nations projections (World Population Prospects), about two-thirds of the world’s population now lives in countries with fertility below the replacement threshold of 2.1 children per woman. East Asia ranks at the top of this global ranking, with Taiwan, at around 0.70 children per woman according to some 2025 estimates, having the lowest rate in the world, followed by South Korea and China. But Europe and North America also record very low fertility rates. The former with values ranging from 1.53 in 2021 to 1.44 in 2044 according to the latest projections, and the latter with values around 1.6 children per woman.
A now structural decline, particularly affecting the most developed countries, which makes it urgent to ask which factors – not only economic and social, but also biological and environmental – are determining it.
Behind the birth rate figures, the scientific community has been observing for years a broader and less reported phenomenon:
a progressive deterioration of hormonal and reproductive health affecting all age groups and both sexes, with roots that sink into the environment, lifestyle and daily exposure to chemicals.
One of the warning signs is the
average sperm concentration in the male population which, over the last forty years, has more than halved, with a rate of decline that has doubled after 2000 compared to previous decades (Levine et al., Human Reproduction Update, 2023). According to the World Health Organization, about one in six people in the world experiences infertility problems during their lifetime.
Another key factor is
global obesity, which has more than doubled since 1990, bringing with it hormonal alterations involving insulin, testosterone and oestrogens, with direct effects on fertility. (NCD-RisC/WHO, 2024)
Added to this is the increasingly discussed chapter of
endocrine disruptors: scientists have identified over a thousand of them, including bisphenols, phthalates, PFAS and flame retardants, capable of altering normal hormonal signalling in the most delicate stages of development – and these are only the known substances, against over 15,000 PFAS catalogued globally.
The picture that emerges from all this does not speak only of a collapse in fertility but becomes a public health issue which, intertwining environmental pollution, diet, sedentary lifestyle and stress, forces us to come to terms with increasingly unbalanced and compromised hormonal systems that affect, in different but cross-cutting ways, men, women, adolescents and children of all nationalities.
